The History of Museum



The History of Holy Shrine of Shahcheragh Museum 

The establishment of SHAHCHERAGH museum goes back to 1965.According to relics and objects, a very small museum was constructed in a corner in that year. It contained manuscripts and documents of holy shrine.

This two-story museum, now in a space of one thousand and one hundred meters square welcomes a lot of enthusiastic visitors according to the standards of museums.

Relics of Holy Shrine’s Museum

The good tradition of donation of relics and objects is common between people. Due to these traditions more than four thousand precious historical and cultural objects are kept in the museum and treasury of this cultural complex. Approximately six hundred relics is put to exhibit for researchers, university students and enthusiasts. Increasing the association with governmental and non-governmental organization for the purposes of educational and scientific activities is one of the aims of this museum.

All of these objects are in the case of donation, offering and endowment, starting from ancient era and continues to contemporary era (QAJAR and PAHLAVI).

Collection of crockery objects this precious ancient collection contains six hundred pieces.

Approximately one hundred pieces of them are put to exhibit. The most outstanding pieces are 12 pieces of crockery, 300 pieces of crock labeled conical jug in different dimensions from southern areas of country, ASHKANI canteen, tallow burner and jars.

Collection of Metal Objects

This collection contains war weapons, swords related to SHAH ABBAS SAFAVI’S era and the QAJAR dynasty, metal vessels and enameling (flat and embossed) generally related to QAJAR era, QAJAR brass, drinking fountain, gold-plated knives, candlestick and jewelry.

Collection of Coins

This precious collection contains four hundred coins from ASHKANI and SASANI eras on.

Collection of Manuscripts and Documentaries of Endowments of Holy Shrine

The historical collection contains other existing objects with the subjects of Quran, prayers, literary and scientific books and endowments documents.

Relics of Martyr (SHAHID) DASTGHEIB

A part of the museum, which is put to exhibit, is allocated to relics of the MIHRAB MARTYR AYATOLLAH SAYYED ABDOL HOSSEIN DASTGHEIB. These relics are indicative of political campaign, social and cultural activities of that magnanimous martyr.

Introduction of Other Precious Objects of Museum

A silver couple door, made of walnut wood and silver covering, is donated to holy shrine by YAMIN ALDOLE, the son of NASER ALDIN QAJAR. It is 3 meters in height and 2 meters in width.

In the margin of the doors, 12 couplets are enamel worked in blue by deceased AHMAD VESAL, whose pen name is VEQAR-E-SHIRAZI, the noble of VESAL SHIRAZI.

The ancient sepulture of SAYYED MIR MOHAMMAD EBN- E MUSA is made of wood in the dimensions of 80 cmx20 m. It is not only decorated by six-sided wooden fretwork on the fourfold surfaces by the name of 12 Imams, but also some other holy people such as BAYAZID BASTAMI,EBRAHIM ADHAM SHAH SHOJA KERMANI,AMAR YASER.

Inlaid door of SHAHCHERAGH HOLY SHRINE is in the dimensions of 1040x2030 cm. Each doublet of the door has frames, 2 in square shape, one in rectangle shape. This is decorated with turquoise color and a mixture of steal, wire and foil. This door, related to 150 years ago, was affixed in the entrance of SHAHCHERAGH HOLY SHRINE before the enameling and gold door. One of the precious objects kept in the museum in 2 volumes of Quran from 800 years ago containing 15 parts of Devine verses which is written on a very special kind of paper.

Artistic Works of Museum

Metallurgy: the old door of SHAHCHERAGH HOLY SHRINE The door is donated to HOLY SHRINE by YAMIN ALDOLE, the son of NASER ALDIN SHAH QAJAR in 1289 L.Y.

The door is 3 meters in height and 2 meters in width. It is made of walnut wood with silver covering with a magnificent design. In the margin of the doors, 12 couplets are enamel worked in blue by deceased AHMAD VESAL, whose pen name is VEQAR-E-SHIRAZI.

Other apparent specifications on the surface of the door are the embossed sentence of Prophet MOHAMMAD: “I am the city of knowledge and ALI is the door of this city”. And also the blessed name of Prophet MOHAMMAD on the Knocker of every door. One can see this sentence in the margin of the door: “Inscription by SAYYED JAFAR REZGAR BASHI, obedient servant of MOHAMMAD HOSSEIN ALLAH ZAND, and enameling by MOHAMMAD SHAFI.”

Wood Carving: The ancient HOLY sepulture of SAYYED MIR MOAMMAD this box which is put on the holy tomb belongs to a long time ago. It is made of wood in the dimensions of 80 cmx 2 m.

Magnificence of this artistic work enchanted every visitor. The blessed names of 12 Imams and holy people are written and wood carved on this box.

The fourfold surface is decorated by six-sided wooden fretwork. A name is written on every surface of six-sided.

The upper surface of every side is wood worked with some of the verses of Quran.
